Daniel – NYC

On this trip I had just one night in NYC and had to pick just one restaurant so I decided why not Daniel. It is the favorite restaurant of my NYC foodie friends, 3 Michelin stars, 4 New York times stars and no 11 in the world top 50. So why not – you never know what happens to you tomorrow 🙂
The restaurant, the ambiance, the wine, the service and the food were amazing. We decided to have the 6 course degustation menu. Interesting this menu had a choice of two in each course so my friend and myself decided to have each so we landed up tasting 12 dishes. Great!
Every single dish was stunning and Daniel Boulud is a star. However I must say it did not blow me away. There are other restaurants where I remember every dish and describe them to others for months but nothing really stood out to me here. Also I find that the European 3 star restaurants do it with so much more style. They really spoil you, treat you like royalty and do everything with such elegance that they do put their US counterparts to shame. Don’t get me wrong – it was a stunning meal and I would recommend it to anyone wanting a Boulud experience.



The amuse bouche of salmon, pea soup and prawn – beautiful presentation and fresh flavours

Rabbit porchetta with chorizo, pickled saint george’s mushroom, orleans mustard cream, artichoke frisee salad


Duck terrine with Sicilian pistachio, rose petals poached rhubarb, black cardamom gelee, young mesclun – absolutely beautiful and soft and creamy pate…yum


Peekytoe crab salad with cumin carrot coulis, snapper crab craquelin, ginger and avocado – lots of chunky crab – loved it.


Tai snapper ceviche with celery vinaigrette, tapioca pearls, shaved radish, northern lights caviar


Maine sea scallop rosette with lovage, hawaiian hearts of palm, avocado tomatillo coulis, pickled fresno pepper – beautifully presented dish – to beautiful to eat but the flavours were great. Soft and fresh.


Mousseron and maine lobster ravioli, sauteed lambsquarters, pink peppercorn – my fav dish of the night – loved the chunky lobster 🙂


Grilled Alaskan king salmon with chanterelle, wilted spinach, spring garlic, green peppercorn sauce


Yellowfin tuna ‘a la plancha’ with sweet pepper ragout, marinated anchovies, chickpea panisse, mustard salad, iberico ham


Duo of beef – black angus short ribs with fava bean coulis, seared wagyu tenderloin and organ morels, tarragon spinach custard, fiddlehead ferns – anything with morels wins me over 🙂


Tasting of veal – roasted tenderloin with eggplant puree, braised cheeks with glazed zucchini, crispy sweetbreads with caper caponata – loved the cheeks…


Warm guanaja chocolate coulant, liquid caramel, fleur de sel, milk sorbet – ok I must say I loved this…..it was totally to die for 🙂 just the best combinations – chocolate – caramel  -salt….warm…sublime….


Lemongrass poached pineapple, coconut meringue, lime run gelee, pina colada sorbet


Petit fours


Chocolate truffles – passionfruit, peanut butter, caramel and lemon.
