Ame – SOMA – San Francisco

Looking at the menu and the decor – you would be right to think this was a Japanese restaurant but far from it – it is true fusion cuisine and it was beautiful. I have heard mixed reviews but I really enjoyed every dish and would love to go back. A bit on the expensive side so may have to wait for another occasion. Chef Hiro Sone, who also owns the famous Terra restaurant in the Napa, does a great fusion American menu and has won a michelin star every year since it opened. His signature dish is the black cod and it was divine. Loved Ame.

Raviolo of pheasant with forest mushrooms, caramelized cilpolini, roasted game jus, winter black truffle

Tempura poke – with oge seaweed, hawaiian seasalt, and green onions

Panco crusted oysters on slow braised pork belly in black vinegar sauce with horseradish cream

Ceviche of amberjack, with avacado, grapefruit, charred fresno chili and lime salt

Chawan-mushi – japanese savory custard with lobster, sea urchin, shitake and mitsuba sauce – amazing.

Butter poached maine lobster and hokkaido scallops, rosted cauliflower, pickled sultana grapes, curry brown butter sauce

Broiled sake marinated alaskan black cod and shrimp dumplings in shiso broth – signature dish  – was great.

Apple and quince tart with hazelnut crumble and fior di latte ice cream

Beer donuts with chocolate stout ice cream and chocolate fudge sauce
