Duck Duck Goose – Melbourne

by Suha on July 16, 2011

I loved the name and having read great reviews, we decided to give it a try. An interesting concept  – there are two parts to this restaurant. A very casual looking bistro serving Chinese cuisine. Good dumplings etc but a very casual atmosphere. On the other side is their very fine dining restaurant that offers French cuisine with an Asian influence. The ambiance at the fine dining is beautiful. An elegant grand entrance and a beautiful water body in the centre of this well spread out restaurant. They have a great walk in wine cellar as well. Offering a la carte and degustation menus – we went for their signature degustation menu tonight. Enjoyed the meal and loved their innovative combinations and flavours. Would be happy to go back again…

Smoked Eel amuse bouche

Aromatic seared Quail – on a crispy porcini risotto, macadamia crumble, parsnip puree, Chinese five-spice – loved the quail and the crisp risotto – not sure about the greens on the top…

Aromatic Duck broth – seasonal mushrooms, fresh truffle, truffle oil, hand made duck dumpling – loved it. Warm and full of flavour. yum

Seared coral trout – red quinoa crust, ginger foam, sauce chinois vin rouge – loved the fish and the ginger foam but did find the sauce a  bit too strong and overpowering

Yuzu chocolate parfait – chocolate snow, dried cranberry, confit cumquats

Petit fours
