Assaggio – Adelaide

by Suha on August 14, 2011

Assaggio is a fine dining Italian institution in Adelaide. You cant go wrong here for great hearty Italian food. Great menu which offers so many great sounding dishes that it is hard to pick. Tonight we went for the lobster veloute and quail which were both really nice. The pasta disappointed all of us but then desserts came to the rescue. The desserts were all truly stand out. Once again after dining at VCV and Celsius on this trip, it seems like Assaggios may have competition on its hand.

Lobster veloute flavoured with bottega moscato – nice and rich and warm for a winters day. Large chunky pieces of lobster made it a very nice start to the meal.

Linguini alla pescatora – linguini with shellfish, whitefish, garlic, chilli and olive oil – this was the only dish that disappointed on the night. It was a bit dry and bland and we left half of it.

Fresh lime sorbet

Roasted party boned quail with spicy pancetta, bandied grapes and green chilli – one of the signature dishes – although messy I loved it. Caramelized sweet and chilli spicy, crisp pancetta really added to the quail. Very nice.

Budino – warm individual spiced strawberry pudding, cardamom gelato, mango and passionfruit consomme

Tartufo bianco – Creamed gelato of piedmont white truffles served with Adelaide hills air dried figlettes in syrup – great truffle taste to the gelato

Panna cotta  – Galliano flavoured cream with raspberries and crisp fried italian pastry

Semifreddo of white chocolate and pistachio served with espresso and roasted hazelnut syrup

Amor di cioccolata – dark bitter chocolate and almond flourless pudding, orange chocolate cointreau panna cotta, belgian chocolate gelato, chocolate truffles. YUM………
